The Hidden Time

A company of Kindt and van den Bos

Manja Kindt and Jan Pieter van den Bos work on several projects alongside their own art practice under the name The Hidden Time.

Time is an ongoing thing. People have divided time for practical use into hours, days, weeks, years and so on to organise life. But that is not the real time. Real actual time is the time that is free, that is always continuous and not reversible. Then you are talking about millions of years, about eternity. You could say that this is the time that plays no role in your pursuits, it is the hidden time that moves forward, that has no clock, and that gives space to new ideas.

We create a sanctuary in the landscape, a sanctuary not in the time of the clock but we want to move through this "free" time and experience what influence the landscape has on us. All this is captured in drawings, photo, video, sound and smell.

Travel through the municipality of Ooststellingwerf

Art route Open Stal

One month of walking through the municipality of Ooststellingwerf to arrive at an installation for Open Stable. The spots chosen during this ‘journey’ were demarcated with barrier tape and minutely examined. A hydrolate (scented water) was distilled from clumps of earth taken from each spot.

Landscape paintings from second-hand shop, painted with a drop-off ribbon

A liquid was distilled from a taken clod of earth from each site visited. The scent of an area thus obtained was stored in bottles with label, and QR code on the cap.
